01 / THREE HEIGHTS
Tall. Medium. Short. Each one earns its place.
Bench dogs aren't one-size-fits-all because the work isn't one-size-fits-all. The Dash-Board Bench Dog line comes in three heights so you can match the dog to the task. The 1" Tall dogs handle vertical workholding and back-of-rail registration. The ½" Medium dogs are the everyday workhorse, included with the Guide Rail Bracket Set, used for general workholding and Universal Setup Block pairing. The 3/16" Short dogs sit low against the bench top for securing thin materials, edge work, and any setup where a taller dog would interfere with the workpiece.
Tall (1"): Vertical workholding, rail-back registration
Medium (½"): General workholding, Setup Block pairing, included in Guide Rail Bracket Set
Short (3/16"): Thin material registration, low-profile setups
Same $29 price across all three heights
02 / MATERIAL
Delrin. The bench-friendly material.
Every Dash-Board Bench Dog is machined from Delrin, a high-performance engineering plastic with a unique property: it doesn't dent when you drop it. Steel and aluminum dogs damage your bench top if you drop them on it, especially on a Dash-Board's replaceable cut strip or a Festool MFT's MDF top. Delrin absorbs the impact without marking the bench or chipping the dog. Drop them on the floor, drop them on the bench, leave them rattling in a tool bag, they keep working. That's why every Dash-Board Bench Dog in every height is Delrin, not metal.
Delrin construction across all three heights
Won't dent or mark your bench top when dropped
Resistant to chipping and breakage
Same material across the entire bench dog line
03 / SYSTEM ROLE
The piece every setup uses.
Bench dogs are the smallest piece of the Dash-Board system and the one most workflows quietly depend on. They pair with Universal Setup Blocks to register your guide rail at the same cut line every time. They secure workpieces during sanding, finishing, and assembly. They serve as squaring posts for crosscut setups. They hold material against a fence for marking and measuring. Most Dash-Board owners run two or three sets at different heights, so a Medium set is always at hand for general work, a Tall set is ready for vertical workholding, and a Short set is staged for low-profile setups.

Know Before You Buy
Choose Medium (½") if you only buy one set — it's the general-purpose height that pairs with the Universal Setup Block and ships standard with the Guide Rail Bracket Set. Choose Tall (1") for vertical workholding setups, rail-back registration, and applications where you need taller registration points. Choose Short (3/16") for thin material registration, low-profile setups, and any application where a taller dog would interfere with the workpiece. Many Dash-Board owners run all three heights at $29 per set.
Delrin is a high-performance engineering plastic (technically polyoxymethylene, or POM) that combines strength and impact resistance with a self-lubricating surface that won't damage other materials on contact. For bench dogs, this means two things: the dogs themselves don't chip or break when dropped, and they don't dent or mark your bench top when they hit it. Steel and aluminum dogs damage bench tops, especially MDF tops on Festool MFTs or replaceable cut strips on Dash-Boards. Delrin doesn't.
The Guide Rail Bracket Set ships with 4 Medium (½") Bench Dogs as standard equipment, which is enough for typical guide rail registration and bench top setup. You'll want additional sets if you frequently work with vertical workholding (add Tall), thin materials (add Short), or large workpieces that need multiple registration points (add more Medium). Many Dash-Board owners eventually own all three heights to handle different workflows without swapping dogs between setups.
Dash-Board Bench Dogs are compatible with any workbench that has a 20mm hole grid, including the Dash-Board bench, ShortCut bench, Festool MFT3 and 1080, Benchdogs Ultra MFT, Kreg ACS, and DIY MFT-style benches. The dogs are standard 20mm diameter and drop into any compatible hole without modification or proprietary hardware. They are not a Dash-Board-exclusive accessory.
The main differences are the Delrin construction (most generic bench dogs are aluminum or steel, which dent benches and chip themselves), the precision tolerance (Dash-Board dogs drop into 20mm holes with consistent fit across the line), and the height options (Tall, Medium, and Short cover the full range of workflow needs at a single price point). If you've been using metal dogs and dropping them on your bench top, switching to Delrin is one of the smaller upgrades that makes the biggest difference over time.
